#28 Mt. of the Holy Cross

Like a true WildWander after leaving North Maroon Peak I drove to Half Moon Campground to sleep overnight and hike Holy Cross the next day. Great camping at the trail head for $15 overnight. You can hike halfway in and camp at designated sites near East Cross Creek that are free but all taken when I hiked through the next morning so they appear to go quickly on weekends.

Sunrise over Half Moon Pass

After gaining 1000 feet this is the point where you start to decline the 1000 feet to East Cross Creek. Like everyone else complains it is a pain when your coming back from the summit. I loudly cursed at it a few times.

First view of Mt. of the Holy Cross. East Cross Creek and those campsites you pass are below in the thick trees.

Follow the ridge and the large cairns

Leaving Mt. of the Holy Cross slowly climbing back up to Half Moon Pass to get back to the trail head. A popular camp and recreational spot so many dozen others gained the summit and even more fishing and camping in the area. Took me 4 hours up and 3 hours down.
