Mount Powell (as a plan B)

Our original plan was to climb some Elks near Aspen. However with all of the smoke from the Lake Christine fire we decided to stay localish and climb Mount Powell.

From the Piney Lake TH we hiked Mt. Powell via Kneeknocker Pass. Our round trip was 11.3 miles and 5400 vertical. Total time was roughly 8.5 hours including a half hour on the summit.

Kristi hiking pas Piney Lake. Peak C and Kneeknocker pass way off in the distance. It was a hazy day but the valley was beautiful none the less.

After topping out on Kneeknocker Pass we dropped a few hundred feet before ascending Powell.

Instead of hiking up Powell's loose south slope we decided to stick to the solid rock just below the ridge. As we climbed we slowly worked out way from climber's left to right until we were just below the summit.

We spent about 30 minutes on this awesome summit. Views of Peak C and the lakes below were awesome.
