Great Hike - South Arapaho Peak

Had a fantastic time hiking up South Arapaho Peak! It was my first big hike in about 2 years and my dad and I really enjoyed it.

The trail is beautiful - tons of wildflowers all around. There are quite a few times you have to traverse across little creeks, which I found to be really fun. Once you get out of the trees and make your way onto the Arapaho Glacier trail you get amazing views all around as you navigate the long switchbacks, and still plenty of wildflowers.

The Arapaho Glacier was beautiful! When you get up to the end of the defined trail, you can see right down into it and the water is so clear and blue.

Once we got up to that point, we began the scramble to the summit. It actually took quite a long time for us, but we made it. I loved scrambling up the rocks. There isn't a completely clear trail here, but there are cairns that keep you on the right track. You can get great views of the glacier down below from one side, or look back out over the Arapaho Glacier trail.

Finally summited and it was beautiful! Could see North Arapaho Peak so clearly, as well as Longs a bit behind it. There's also a little metal map that shows where other peaks are.

Overall had a great time hiking this trail. The final ascent was a bit challenging, but it was a great workout and day spent outdoors. Also saw at least 10 marmots, which are so cute.

Thanks for the report! I will be doing a solo hike there in September and that clarified some things for me. The final ascent seems to be a good calf killer!
