Tour De Massive X5, CR-11 Massive th. Aug 29 2005

5352 ascent, 16.5 miles, 10.5h... So my friends with 4wd and clearance decided to cry about 1. not having had enough sleep 2. driving around models all night and 3. broken cars which left me walking from the Massive th up to North Halfmoon Creek th. Great way to add 5 extra miles to your day... Hit all five summits on the Tour. This trip took forever due to among other items but not limited to; my complete lack of ability to select the correct route, climbing up the wrong scree field, willows. I hate willows... Fortunately today was one of the nicest days this summer with nary a cloud all day. My minor issues with direction also led me to several nice areas providing great photo opportunities so no complaints, the plan was for this to take all day so I was not in any particular hurry. I followed the trail report and map from summitpost and it worked pretty well, still it was quite easy to get in to areas where you end up wondering if that big block of rock will move again before you have a chance to get the heck out from below it... And btw, dang the non standard trail for Massive that Bill has posted is steep... Its the last leg of the TDM loop taking you back to Halfmoon and I felt like a downhill skiier taking off at the world cup starting down. CFI is working on stabilizing it though so I would expect switchbacks and banks to pop up.
