 Wetterhorn Standard Route

Took my day off last Wednesday to climb a peak that's been on my bucket list for a long time.

The 4X4 road to the trailhead was completely clear and free of snow. A 5 am start was perfect and the first view of Wetterhorn came into sight right on schedule.

Snowmelt had turned the main trail into a mini stream in many places, often with a thin sheet of ice over the top of it. But I reached the snow fields below the summit ridge just as the sun was coming over the Matterhorn's south ridge.

Microspikes and a trekking pole were all I needed to reach the ridge. After attaining the ridge, I left the microspikes on since the patches of snow in the gullies and rocks continued off and on to the summit, including a big patch of snow right on the summit.

I'm looking at Wetterhorn as a possibility for this summer, then recognized your watermark, and knew it was you!
Great pics as always :-)
Thanks
