 Bierstadt, Sawtooth, Evans winter

A few weeks ago a friend and I hit up Bierstadt, Sawtooth, Evans. I was hesitant about crossing the Sawtooth ridge in winter but it ended up being very straight-forward. Super cool hike and one of the most fun I've ever done!

"The rest of the traverse was totally easy but the dire consequences never relented. We crossed short snow fields with 300 foot drops and skirted along cliff edges unbelievably exposed to sheer drops. And in a last effort to scare the bejeezus out of me, the edges got narrower just before we turned a corner and skirted over the lip onto a near flat open plain."

Awesome day!

That's a big grunt of a climb even in summer; congrats on making it back successfully and unscathed. Would love to get back into the Whites and also hit Katahdin again someday, but they still aren't the Rockies, are they?! Also nice to have a good friend living in Denver!

I have a sister and mother living in Yorktown that we visit a couple times each year. If you ever find a morning or a few hours free in your busy schedule whenever I'm out there, we should meet up at the Mariner's Museum in NN and hike the Nolands Trail together. I do that loop frequently when we visit!

Thanks for sharing your trip!

Epic and Fun

Great effort on a fun climb. Glad nothing bad happened on that one - without mountaineering axe that would have been so sketchy. Can't believe you went back for the snowshoe. I would have given it up to the gods. I've done that one in summer, and it was long then.

The pictures are actually from my iphone 6! I'm glad they turned out so well! MtnHub, that sounds awesome, I haven't done that trail before. LIV, it actually wasn't so bad, only a couple stretches of a couple steps each before crossing over the ridge that were sketchy but they were quick. On the whole, the day was great!
