A bare bones report.
The other Jackson Peak, not 13,517. I was up in Wyoming working this last week and had just a few hours to grab a peak. So many peaks, so little time.
We picked Jackson Peak which is just 6 miles out of town in a round about way and in the Gros Ventre Range of Teton National Forest. The views of the Tetons and Grand Teton were great.
(Okay you can't put up a conditions report for outside of Colorado as Bill told me, sorry about that North Maroon thing, deleted, so here is a report to show a peak and the Teton conditions, lots of snow).
A view from our job site in Rafter.
Views from the Town of Kelly site.
The Lake Baldwin trailhead is east out of Jackson at the east end of Broadway. The Elk Refuge is along the way as you take a left turn at the end of Broadway and head through the refuge left past the Twin Creeks Ranch entrance to Sheep Creek Road. Go right and take the road up the hill, the right fork in the road, then past the two Curtis Canyon signs to the end of the road where there is ample parking for twenty vehicles or so.
A view of Jackson Peak from along the road.
The trailhead, with my favorite walking stick on the right, and trail map.
The trail just above the trailhead which starts out heading northeast but turns southerly towards the peak.
You cross in the wilderness area and the snow starts at that point about 9000 feet.
Tracks.
Tracks and a skier.
Lake Baldwin.
Scott the Marlboro man contemplating.
After following the trail a ways up (the trail looks like it actually goes around the far side of the lake) we decided to head straight up the east slopes.
It started steeply and ended even more so at 50 degrees maybe a bit more?
Knee deep slushy snow to the top.
After a bit of grunting we hit the top.
Scott the Marlboro man (can you see the cigarette) and two local skiers on the summit.
The locals skiing off the top, the north slopes are the popular way to go.
Scott with the Tetons behind.
A bit hazy Tetons.
The northeast Class 3 route.
Other views southeast.
9 miles and 2800 feet.
