 Conundrum North Ridge

From the end of the road, I (accidentally) took the talus slope to the WNW instead of the standard trail to Castle's NE ridge. I decided to try the north ridge of Conundrum, and it worked! It's a lot more fun than the steep, loose trail up to (or down from) the saddle between Conundrum and Castle.

The north ridge route is probably Class 3. Some rocks are loose because not many people go there, but overall it seems fairly stable.

Start out from the end of the road, then go up the talus slope to the WNW. Image. Once above the gulley on the left, move to the left and ascend the "easiest" couloir to the ridge. ImageImage Cross over to the west side of the ridge to avoid the steep parts, and follow the ridge to Conundrum. You can deviate to the west side of the ridge when necessary, and at least once to the east or west. Image

I didn't have a GPS with me, and I didn't take many photos (I was surprised to get through all the way to Conundrum and came down the "standard" route for comparison), so I don't have the info to make a very good 14er's route. But it might be a nice addition to if someone happens to find themselves up there...
