 Mt. Democrat

My wife and I, left Lone Tree (south of Denver) at 5:40a.m (a bit too late I now know) arriving at the parking street just below the TH of the 14er quad around 8:40 and began the trek. The original plan was to summit 2 or 3 of the peaks, however as we are newbies, and our late arrival, we decided upon Mt. Democrat only..which by the rapidly rolling-in thunder clouds, was a smart idea. Throughout our round trip hike, the clouds surrounding the ring of peaks came, and went - luckily, we felt not drop of rain. Our newly adopted Shiba Inu pup, as well as ourselves, had a little trouble scrambling over the boulders near the summit, however I would guess this is comparable to the majority of 14er's in the state, and we had no major issues..a few near-falls on the way down, but all good. We three were the last to make the summit of Democrat - which was very nice, as we were among the very few on the summit and could really take in the view - an amazing view! Democrat was our third 14er we have conquered after moving to CO from TX. Next trip to the Mosquito Range we shall attempt the remaining three peaks that we left untouched! All in all, a smooth, no hassle summit.
