 Mt. Elbert - South East

The approach to the 4WD was in decent shape. So long as you have clearance, you can make it all the way. We parked a little lower - 10,350 or so, not knowing how the conditions would be -- but were picked up @ the trailhead : )) Thanks Tom!
The trail is in perfect shape and very easy to follow.
Hiked with my husband and 2 huskies half way up and finished the hike with my brother in law Hector.
This hike was bittersweet, as my original intention was to have my best & capable Siberian Husky hiking partner Merlot with me. Instead, it became a hike to be as close as possible to her and to celebrate her life @ the peak. She died of cancer @ 8years old on Monday July 29th 2013, after being diagnosed mere weeks before.
There were quite a few people hiking on a Wednesday - guess it was because the weather was favorable.
Our hiking time up was 4 hours, which included 2 breaks totaling an hour. Total round trip time was 7 hours, which included 3 breaks (1 coming down). Thought I'd post our time, as I always am looking to see what other people take. I consider myself a slow to moderate pacer going up and moderate/fast coming down
This journey brought me closure, as well the kickoff to my 14'er season. Hope to do 2 more this summer. Wilson Peak & Wetterhorn.

Sorry for your loss, HikingSibes. I am a dog person, and dogs are surely a part of the family. My buddy (dog) and I trail run together, hike together, and drive around town in my pickup. No matter my mood, she is always enthused and happy, and brings me to her level.

Glad your Elbert hike went well, otherwise. Good luck on the planned hikes.

Thank you
