Rough day in the hills
So the alarm went off at 3:30am. After getting shut down on Pettingell due to rapidly warming temps and a light freeze I didn't want to make the same mistake. We somehow managed to hit the road at 4:07am and made our way up to the Bakerville exit on I-70. The traffic was really rough as there were about 5 cars on the road for the whole ride up ;) We drove up to the Stevens/Grizzly Gulch junction and parked. We managed to start hiking at 5:33am. Not bad and the freeze was far better than expected. We headed up and past the trailhead bridge and then on past the old mine to the base of the North Couloir of McClellan Mountain. The snow was great for cramponing but progress was stunted due to rockfall. 4-8 steps then look up to make sure the world wasn't raining down on us...
