 Mt Sneffels Summit Ski-Birthday Chutes

After a few fun days skiing around Yankee Boy Basin, Calc and I wanted to get south or east facing line for the final day that would be in good condition. Lots of south-east had been sloughing out the last few days. We had our eyes on United States Peak which is certainly a nice looking line with a great apron. Another option was a fun looking north facing line dropping to the upper mine. After some thought we realized that we may be overlooking Sneffels as the south face kinda fit the aspect we were looking to ski.

We got an early start of 4:30am; parting ways with the Weehawken's (Ben and Brian's objective for the day)and strolled up the all too familiar road one final time.

Entering the upper basin at sunrise we stopped for a water break.

There is a little bit af a rock move after the Lavender before the summit. I dont have any pics but Brennans video shows it well. We hit the summit a little after 9 and had to wait a while for the snow to soften. We ended up skiing the skiers lefte chute that then has an option leading towards a shot that funnels into the bottom of the center ski line.

that face always delivers and doesn't require a pesky, 1200 foot reclimb. Skiing that line must make you feel like its your birthday, everyday.

Look'n good!

Yankee boy continues to not disappoint. I've climbed this peak in the summer, but I think it's worth repeating for the ski.

Congrats on the solid weekend of skiing!

Glad you enjoyed the line. Looks like it was in really good condition. Did you nab the center chute or something further skier's right? That shot of you with Gilpin and the moon is money. While we were slogging balls out of Weehawken you were enjoying a twenty minute ski back to the car. I'm definitely jealous about that!

That last photo is money!

Ben, we skied what I think you had skied but then took a little chute that you can see funnels right into the same apron as the ”center chute” with the rock showing in your photo. If that makes sense...
