Climbing is meditation in motion, that forces me to focus intensely on the present escaping both the past and the future. It instantly gives me the inner balance and peace that nothing else has so far.
The freedom and simple beauty is too good to pass up...
This trip started late, much later than I ever start. I didn't begin to leave for the TH until 11:30pm on November 4th, and with a 3 hour drive I didn't get to the TH until 2:30am! The plan was to leave the TH around 7am to give myself some time to sleep. Around 5am I awoke from a dead sleep anxious to go climbing. You see I have been out of the mountains for close to a month, due to a busy life. I was pumped and ready to go even though I only had a few hours of sleep. I forced myself back into a half sleeping state until the sun began peaking in at me. By 5:45 I couldn't wait no longer; I got my breakfast cooking, cleaned/packed up camp, double checked my pack and was gone by 6:30am.
Between the beautiful, clear, warm, calm November morning and the smell of the mountain air I was basically floating up the trail. I stopped around 12,500' for about 15mins trying to catch some picture of the local goats and big horn sheep that was moseying around on the mountain side above me. I was never able to get a clear photo of them but I sure gave it my best.
I arrived on the summit of Shavano roughly 3.5hrs from leaving the TH. I enjoyed the view for a few moments and ate a sandwich and then was off again. Just short of an hour from the time I left Shavano I was standing on Tabeguache. I tried to sit and relax here but I couldn't I was too excited...still! I just wanted to be moving and sucking in the air. I took off and headed for the car.
On the way I found more some of the local critters that I stood by and watch them chase each other. This time I was able to get a picture of them but they were a bit too far to come out clear. I finally made it back to my car around 3pm, took one last deep breath of the clear air and head east for home.

Yeah...I knew there wouldn't be much snow but figured there would be some so I carried my microspikes and gaiters but 110% did not need them. I've been watching the weather and I imagine that this hike was probably my last without snow
