 Huron and a KEG!

Left Denver at 4:30am and was at Bongo Billys parking lot in Buena Vista at 6:30am, no traffic or state troopers really makes a difference!
Met my friends who have a newer Xterra 4WD and we headed north for the cushy 14.5 miles on 24 to CR390. The dirt road to Winfield was pretty much all washboard and the whole 11.8 miles was a total ball ache! I love the Route Guides on here as the instructions are perfect to the T. We made a left and headed up the narrow 4x4 road and I was surprised to see so many cars along the way tho somebody's new Subaru Impreza lost a fog light cover. Theres a couple of nasty washed out ditches that were full of water but if you have good ground clearance and go slow its easily doable.
Loads of campsites everywhere you look and the trailhead area was full of pick ups, Jeeps and assorted SUV's. We start hiking and soon catch up to a few people plus theres a some couples already coming down, both said they set off at 5am so I was thinking either they ran all the way or we are in for an easy hike.
The trail is super obvious all the way through the forested area and then when you can see Huron its even more clear on where you are going. No false summits on this one.

We passed a guy taking a break who had a full size pack, didnt think much of it until he finally arrived up top amidst a bunch of cheers. Come to find out he had hauled up a keg of beer for his buddy who was completing his 58th 14er. We watched them tap the keg as I was half expecting it to shoot all over the place, then we hiked back down. Awesome day!

The guy in your last photo is Micah (mountainmicah83 here on 14ers). Looks like his friend Matt (Bruton on 14ers) hiked the keg up.

Yes Terry is right. Thanks for celebrating with us up there. Heck of a way to finish along with my 6month pregnant wife. My TR will be up soon.
