 Shrine Mountain- views Galore

This mountain is less than 12,000 feet. It doesn't even have enough prominence over it's parent to "count". And yet, it was a good hike. From this point, you can see into the Gore range, you can see the Tenmile range, and you can look at the Northern Sawatch (including Holy Cross, Massive, and Elbert)

Last Saturday I hiked Shrine mountain with my Mother in law, wife, and her sister. I also brought my 8-month-old son along! I'm sure he won't remember the hike, but he did seem to be having fun. He would make happy noises when we were hiking, and sometimes whine when I stopped for whatever reason. It was his first "summit".

Not every hike you do has to be a 14er, and sometimes the simple hikes can be just as enjoyable.

Mountains other than 14ers (and 13ers) can be a lot of fun - with the added advantage of having the mountain to yourself. And good for you for starting Alex out early!
