 Getting Close!   

On 08/06/2012 I drove over to the Capitol Trailhead to sleep in my car and climb Capitol the next day. It was raining as I arrived but I still made it all the way up to the 4WD trailhead in my 2WD car because my cars a beast. I woke up at 3:00 the next morning and started heading towards Capitol. I got to the lake just around sunrise, and started to climb up the saddle. Capitol is the most impressive looking 14er I've seen.

After the saddle I did some bad route finding over to a talus field that led up to K2.

I got up on k2 and checked out the remaining route to Capitol.

I headed over to the knife edge. I expected a tightrope walk with 2000 foot cliffs on either side, but it wasn't that. It's certainly exposed but is over-hyped in my opinion.

I walked on the top and left sides of the knife edge. To gain the summit I traversed across for a bit then climbed up to the ridge.

To anyone who's done the Capitol/Snowmass traverse: props.

I got first summit of the day at 8:39AM, then chilled on the summit with some other groups once they got up there.

After a long summit break I headed back down.

I got a better look at Capitol's north face with some more light on it.

Then all there was was the trek back to the car. Capitol brings me to 52 so I'm closing in!

”is over-hyped in my opinion” I couldn't agree more! Good work going alpine style and not carrying a pack up. Best way to go about it IMO.

Yeah, for that entire approach I was happy that I only had to carry my day pack. After backpacking into Lake Como, I decided no more backpacking trips if I knew I could do it in a big push.
