An Easy Day for a Lady

Sir Alfred Mummery's words have been immortalized. I think Grays Peak / Torreys Peak safely falls into the 3rd catagory.

Route: Grays and Torreys Peak from Baldwin Creek (Standard)
Distance: ~8.25 Miles
Elevation Gain: ~3600 feet
Difficulty: An Easy Day for a Lady

On Friday the 13th I took 3 women on their first 14ers (hence the '1st' badge), Grays Peak and Torreys Peak. This was a special trip for me, and a great time to have some different partners. The follow day I took 2 of their husbands on their first 14er as well.

I was worried about posting ANOTHER Grays and Torreys trip report, so I hope you find the pictures worth your time. All pictures were processed with Adobe Lightroom.

Starting out

Both peaks can be seen here:

This is the first 14er that I brought my Nikon D5100 on. Now I see why a lot of people are liking small, lightweight cameras on hikes instead of heavy, bulky ones. Still, it was worth the effort to capture some of these photos! I used a cheap Polarizing filter on most of the shots- seems to give a dreamy feeling to the sky and clouds.

Overall, I thought this was a fantastic experience; not only for the ladies, but for me. Times like this remind you why you do what you do, in case you get jaded or burned out on "the grind". Even something as benign as G&T can be a thing of wonder and excitement. As an added bonus, they will love to discover some of the other mountains later in their climbing adventures.

**Update: Anastasiya and Erin M. just hiked Pikes Peak via Crags, so truely this was the start of something more for them!

Why did you change the title? My signature disapproves.

Grays/Torreys is my favorite area to take first-timers. Who knows, maybe those ladies will turn their easy day into 58 mountains in a few years?

Why I changed the title

I thought it was kind of played-out by now. Maybe I'll change it back, who knows? Plus Anna recently did a TR with the same title, and I didn't want to steal her thunder.

(It was called ”An Easy Day for a Lady”)

And yes, I agree this appears to be one of the best trails for a first timer. The views from Torreys are especially good for the distance driven and effort involved. The 2nd peak being optional is a bonus for people who run out of gas. My biggest 'concern' would be the overuse.. but what can you do?

Awesome photos!

Great write up too! Good to see some first timers getting out to taste the joy.

Another First Timer

I did this for the first time on Sunday, and was so happy to accomplish it. Good just getting some first timers on the mountain!
