 Windy Saturday On Sherman

Mountain: Mt. Sherman
Route: Standard 4 Mile Creek Trail
Time: 5 hours (4 hiking, 1 on the summit)
Difficulty: 4
Weather: Bluebird day, but WINDY

Summer classes are now ending at the Colorado School of Mines (my college), so I got a group together and decided to start off summer right with a nice, mellow 14er. We had a young lady in our group that had never climbed a 14er before, so I wanted to make sure it would be a good experience so she would come again. Mt. Sherman seemed like the perfect choice!

We left Golden at 8, and arrived at the 4 Mile Creek Trailhead at about 10:15. Unfortunately, 1 of our vehicles got a flat tire by the old mine shaft on the way up to the trailhead. Believe me, I'm never excited about hiking at such a late time in the morning, but I was more focused on making people were comfortable, well rested, and happy, instead of making sure we got the summit.

Horseshoe Mountain(?). It's one of the 100 tallest, so I'll give it a shot hopefully this summer

It was a bluebird day, but I could tell the wind was going to be pretty bad because of all the beta I got from the hikers on their way down. But I did Evans a couple weeks ago in the worst wind I've ever been in, so I didn't think it would get that bad.

There were barely any clouds the entire day

Here's the Mines crew halfway up

At the saddle between Sheridan and Sherman. Wind was picking up fast

Made it! This was my third time doing it, but first since starting my 14er counting

The whole crew made it!

There wasn't much snow left, but where we could find it, we tried to slide it!

All in all, it was a great hike! The whole team did really well, and it only took 4 hours of hiking, which isn't too bad for a bunch of hungover college kids.

Highlight of the day had to have been either the snow slide on our way down, or seeing how excited our friend Kristen was to climb her first 14er
