 Hiking a 14er in May!!!

Wow, we never get to hike a 14er in May, without trudging through a lot of snow!

This year we did so and I got to hike a 14er on my birthday! Fun.

The weather started out just beautiful and calm as we headed up the trail at about 6:20 am. As we came out at tree line the wind started picking up and by the time we were on the saddle-I was covered with face mask, hood and gloves.

There was very little snow to walk across and there was no need for additional gear such as spikes or gators.

Trail and trees

I have been on this peak 11 times now and this was not the windiest time to date, but it was very chilly. We only stayed on the summit for about 15 minutes, which was disappointing since we had it all to ourselves.

The last time we did this peak was on a Summer Saturday and we estimated there were about 200 people! This time was wonderful with maybe a dozen and a half folks. It helps to go on a Tuesday! I bet this weekend is packed.
