 Mt. Elbert - NE Ridge

Decided since its spring time I would strap on the boats and start doing some easier 14ers. I got to the TH at about 7:00 am. The road to the TH had some light snow from that night but nothing my 4runner couldn't handle. I had been up to the treeline the week before with my dogs and discovered that snow shoes would really help above 11,500. It had been a cold night so most of the snow was hard and packed from previous trips, wish I had brought micro spikes because it was a little icy. I met some guys along the trail and we hike around the same times but not really together. I made it to the treeline at about 9:00, I def wasn't running. When I got to about 12,500 the wind really started to pick up from the north west and continued to really blow, I had forgotten my goggles and was kicking myself for that. Finally got to the summit at 11:45, just behind the two guys I met. The wind calmed down for a few and we shared a beer. From here I hauled down, passed a group on their way up, and made it back to the TH at about 2:15 pm. It was time for beer and food! (sorry the pics aren't great quality)

If you want to know if there is snow on the Box Creek Couloir I can pretty much tell you any time. Elbert is the first thing I see when I look out my window in the morning.

Thinking about heading up and skiing the Box Creek Couloirs this thursday/friday. Would like your opinion on whether it would be skiable then? Also, where would be a good place to set up camp on thursday when we get there, we don't mind hiking up a bit on thursday to give us a head start friday morning? Also where would we have to park our car, I don't have a 4x4?

I know this was over a year ago, I am planning on doing this route on 4/13/13 with some friends and am trying to figure out the best parking/start spot. Thanks for posting your trip!
