We saw your tracks

I climbed Arkansas on the 10th. In fact, many of our photos are nearly identical lol!
Saw your nice tracks coming down the couloir!

you guys are doing a great job of finding skiable lines this spring. BTW, it's snowing hard outside my window as I write this comment!

nice report Ben

It was fun to see you guys up there, and again back at the trail head! Even hearing someone say, ”I still need Eolus” was interesting. ;)
Fun line, and it was a nice way to start my season of snow climbing!

Ben, I've really been looking forward to your report on this ski. Looks like the snow (other than the choke) was in fine shape. Glad you guys had a fun, safe day. And great shots of the drop-in!!

Anyone measure the slope angle at the steepest spot before reaching the cornice? Or have a guess?

04/16/2012 00:48
Hey Bill, thanks! Yeah other than the choke the skiing was great. Marc measured the center of the couloir at 45 degrees. He didn't measure the top, but I'd say it definitely felt steeper than the point where he did measure, which makes me think it has to be over 45. The turns I made off the top felt more like 50 or very near it.

That line looks really sweet (minus that crux) - I had no idea!! Great TR, Ben. And nicely done to everyone

04/16/2012 07:45
I thought that I had heard you when you communicated that the crux was ”out”. Seeing is believing, however. Nice work!

Also: Snowbird with 2.5 feet of fresh is UNBELIEVABLE. We need to tour out the Utah way next season.

If this most recent snow sets up we might be in for a few more ski tours.

new snow

A friend climbed it on Saturday before the storm, and judging from his pictures, our tracks from Easter were covered already.
And their climb was prior to the new snow! You might be right Bill!

EDIT: I took out links and added photos.

Looking down at crux:

shots look good. Definitely some new snow in there even before the Saturday/Sunday storm. Might be worth going to take a look, Bill...

Great report on a peak & route high on the list!

Good seeing you
04/16/2012 15:56
Good seeing you guys, glad I didn't have to eat all those jellybeans by myself. Looks like the ski was pretty good minus the crux, glad you were all able to have a good descent!

04/16/2012 19:51
Thanks for posting. You guys are showing us how to make solid use of a non-season.

Nice ski!

The ark has got to be skiing so deep right now, bout a foot at the house above breck this am!

New snow

Other than the snow shoes tracks along the road we didnt see any tracks whatsoever that you guys were there just a few days prior. And our tracks from Satruday are for sure gone. I think the steepest I have read on the crux was 48 degrees, that felt about right ;)

Nice Tr

cool line, I enjoyed the read. YOu just added another one to my hit list

trying to make it sound like I ”NEED” a 14er. Misleading. Nice meeting you, and thanks for the bootpack.

That crux sucked Ghost Leemur grundle, but other than that, a flawless Mosquito outing. Wish there were more aesthetic, accessible lines like this so close to Front Range.

What has come to?
04/19/2012 03:42
Brian on snowshoes and ”needing” a 14er summit, Papillion obsessing over 14ers. I'm confused....

Great looking line Ben. Maybe one of these days our paths will cross. I need to get you off the planks though.

04/19/2012 16:26's all down hill from here -- in regards to your question. ;)

Helmut, I know what I heard! It's ok.
Eolus is worthy.

Love It

The banter continues . Floyd, looking forward to the day!

Thanks for the comments all.

Great trip Ben!

That coolie is damn aesthetic looking. I love lines like that.

That brief down climb
04/20/2012 20:24
was..... memorable.

Another solid day in the hills gents, and thanks for the elevator d_ and transplant!!
