La Plata North Face Ski
April 9th, 2012
Jmoney and MrWaffles989

I drove to the La Plata TH to meet up with Jmoney. We last skied together nearly 2 years ago. Today, our mission was this route:

The moonset was nice

The snow was nice and firm, so we began booting up the standard route.

We gained the saddle and got a view of the remaining route. False Summit

We dropped into the couloir right off the summit. The top part of this line was terrible. Boiler plate, shallow windslab, and rock.

Jmoney checkin' it out

Jmoney comes down the bad part.

and crosses to the better snow.

Then the snow coverage became much more consistent. Jmoney charged on down.

I followed

We took off

A look back up

Hike out

It was rather difficult getting down. We eventually hit the river and crossed over to the highway. Then walked back to the TH and finished another great day.

Great job on less than perfect conditions, at least up top. Just curious, do you have vasoline smeared on the left side of your camera?
