Grizzly and Cupid - Loveland Pass

Grizzly and Cupid

Loveland Pass TH

Last week I got out and hiked Mt Sniktau and wanted to do Cupid, but am not in the best climbing shape yet. I waited out the bad weather and made plans for Grizzly Peak and Cupid for today.
I arrived at Loveland Pass around 8am and was off on the trail shortly after. The storms from the last few days dropped close to 6inches or so. I didn't bother with snowshoes, don't think they would have done any good. It was a fine powder, I imagine the skiiers are tearing it up today.
Grizzly Peak

The wind was calm compared to my trip last week. On Grizzly I measured the speed about 13mph and similar on Cupid. It was nice not to get blown around all day. Once on the ridge the rollar coaster started. I walked past Cupid and went directly to Grizzly. Not far after heading down south side of Cupid I found a nice rock group to work my way through. After the rocks the snow got deeper and I started postholing to my knees.

When I arrived at the final push of Grizzly I took a break. For only being 600ft, it was daunting. The snow covered rocks were a bit of challenge, but probably more that I'm not in great shape. After some huffing and puffing I made the summit a bit before 11am. The views were amazin, and the sky crystal blue. I had a hard time imagining heading to Torrey's, so I just marveled at the giants for a while before heading down to Cupid.
Grizzly Summit

After getting down the initial 600ft I ran into another climber headed up. He thanked me for my trail breaking and was on his way. After riding the coaster for a bit I was to Cupid in not too long. While on Cupid I spoke with a runner on his way to Torreys wearing shorts. Crazy, I said enjoy and headed down to the car.

It was a good day in the mountains, hopefully get out on one of the nearby 14ers in the next few weeks. I have a blog if anyone is interested:

I was the solo hiker who met you on the final push up Grizzly. Thanks again for the steps! I wonder how far that runner made it without gaiters.

Is that so you can use that as an excuse to not have to break any trail?????

I don't mind busting trail. Always fun to play in the powder. I can't imagine the runner went much further than Gizzly, but who knows. He was on Cupid 30 minutes from the car park. Sounds like a lot of work to me.

I don't like Gaiters. I am proud to run a gaiter-less operation.
