 East Ridge Ascent

Started from trailhead at 6:30am with 3-4 inches of snow on the trail. Excellent weather conditions with clear skies and moderate temperatures around 10 degrees. Once we entered the trees the snow was 1 - 3 feet deep requiring snow shoes, postholing 1,200 feet to the saddle. Very slow going all the way through the trees up to the saddle. Lost the trail several times but it wasn't to hard to stay on course so long as you keep the gulch on your left. There are good trail markings on several trees along the way that confirm you are on the right track. Once at the saddle we climbed up above the treeline to view an incredible site. However, at that point we determined we did not have time to attempt the summit as it had taken too long getting through the deep snow drifts on the way up. Fantastic pictures and climbing with good temperatures and clear skies.
