Climbed Bierstadt the morning of 9/17 with a friend (his first 14er and my third).
Arrived just after 6:00 AM at trailhead, just starting to get light out. Trail had some muddy spots on the initial flat section, but the bridges helped considerably. Once we started getting some elevation, we noticed a storm coming in, which we ended up in the middle of.
Probably around 12,000 feet, we started encountering some snow on the trail, but not much. We started taking a few breaks due to the elevation gain shortly after that, and the trail was pretty consistent up to about 13,000 feet (some snow, fairly steep elevation gain, but really no risk of slipping and falling).
At 13,000 feet, the aforementioned storm hit us. Some significant snow blowing in, wind gusts that felt like they topped 50mph, and obviously very cold! After slogging through some additional elevation gain, we got up to the ridge and started hiking over boulders. Ended up summiting around 8:45 AM, and the storm was still crazy. Took a few pictures of clouds and started heading down. Probably down around 13,500 feet the storm started to let up, and around 13,000 we were out of it completely.
At that point, plenty of people were still coming up. While it looked like while there were still clouds at the summit, it appeared the storm was done. Going down was much easier than I expected, helped with trekking poles and good tread on our boots. Ended up back at trailhead at about 11:00 AM.
