 Mt Shavano

Came out to Salida with my wife Deb, and a couple friends to try and finally bag a 14er. We had an issue last year on Belford, and my friends had been stymied on Longs and Belford in the past by weather.
Anyway, we got an early start and left on a nice, clear morning. Once again, it's hard to realize what a lack of oxygen does to us flatlanders. Holy cow. The weather was a little spotty most of the morning, and it looked like it might turn bad for a little while, but then about 1030ish, it turned sunny, and the rest of the day was beautiful. It took us about 6 hrs to hit the summit, but we got there. The best part we thought was the last 1,000 feet of scramble, even though by this time, I was worn out. (hint, never go climbing with a marathon runer and a native Coloradoan, they make you feel very inept, haha).
We stayed on the summit for about 45 minutes, and enjoyed the beautiful weather & view. All in all, it was a great experieince, and we loved it.

Flatlanders can have fun, too. Congratulations on summiting. Now you're hooked, I suspect
