This is my third year of hiking 14ers. It started as a bucket list summiting Longs Peak and our group has decided this is a great summer adventure and we are planning many more. The hike up Mt. Sherman was not initially planned, but sometimes the best times are last minute changes. I have to say this ascent was the most pleasant of the 7 or 8 we've hiked. I've heard many comments about other peaks being the first but I would recommend Sherman. The trailhead is about 12,000 feet and the hike is relatively easy. I prefer a little rock hopping and some other challenges rather than just the "walk up hill". We had climbed Elbert two days prior so seeing Elbert and Massive across the valley was a great view but the best was yet to come. I would like to thank whoever set the American Flag on the way to the top of the Peak. It was very inspiring! I did not see one set of hikers who did not take pictures and spend some time there. At the peak we spent some time looking. It was also my brother's birthday. We broke into song and everyone on the peak joined in. That was cool and bro appreciated it. Further proves mountain hikers are good people. Back to the looking. This has been the best peak so far for viewing other mountains, especially 14ers. We were amazed how many peaks we could pick out. It was a clear pleasant day on the peak, no worries of weather or a long walk down and we could take our time. This short hike is well worth the trip.
