Endless Winter - Allergic to Summer

Got back into McCullough Gulch for a nice line. I was back there in '94 and skied the V Couloir but didn't make the summit due to some really dark clouds that scared us away. This time me and Brian made decent time to the lake then had some fun getting off route and climbing some fun mounds. Once back on track we quickly got to snow and switched to boots. We pushed on and at the rock island at the base of the line we went left staying on snow. Just as we were rounding the corner we witnessed a huge 300+ lb rock come careening down our planned ascent line. It must have been doing about 60 mph. After a quick discussion we headed to the snow field on the other side of the face. This option had no cliffs above it. We then hit the ridge leading to the summit. This was a fun route as it allowed up to inspect multiple ski routes. At this point Brian developed some altitude issues. After rehydrating and taking some Advil we decided that I would go to the summit and ski back down and Brian would wait at the top of Atlantis Couloir, the V line was really runnelled and dirty at the bottom.

With clouds building I headed for the top.... Click the link if you're interested in more words and pictures "Atlantic Peak" 13,841′ Atlantis Couloir 7/17/2011

nice twist on the old Beach Boys album. Looks like there's a few of us still on safari to stay!
