 My 5 yr Old's First 14er

A very cool day indeed!

I woke up at 2am to get things together, and woke Micah up at 2:45ish. Got up, had some oatmeal, and we hit the road. It's almost a 3 hour drive to the "almost trail head" (still snow on the road before Kite Lake)

Hit the trail about 6:30am

Got to the fun snowy section. Micah had more fun glissading down this, than climbing it, but can you blame him. I did too :-)
That snow ascent

Took advantage of the opportunity to teach Micah more about the trail

It was very exciting to watch him do so well.
Class 2+ moves

Watching him reach the summit was just incredible! This was his first reaction

Incredibly proud indeed!
Proud Dad

Got back to the car. Took off the wet boots. Drank some more Gatorade and started the drive home.
Didn't even make it to Paris Mill on the way out :-)

I guess the nap worked, because before we got home Micah asked, "Can we ride our bikes to the park?" Man! We ended up going to the park and I watched him climb and do the monkey bars like he was completely fresh!

Great day! Just thought I'd share his story. A day I'll never forget!!!

Awesome job...
07/03/2011 03:21 Micah! My daughter just turned 3, and I can't even imagine taking her on a 14er in two years! Big kudos to both of you.

Way to go Dad!

Micah, congrats on your 14er! You must be a tough little guy. Keep up the good work. I hope to see you on the trail sometime. My son is 16 and is my climbing partner. After we climbed Huron Peak on Friday, he drove home and I took a nap like you.

Good job on taking Micah on his 1st 14er. It is a great feeling and experience to watch your child's face and reaction to getting the summit, huh? I love that pic of him crashed out. I have a shot just like that of my son and daughter after we did Sherman last year....great stuff!

Top notch!
