Nice well-planned outing, good to see you guys are still at it. I'll practice the Willow Float every chance I get... Nice video too. (I left my video camera in the car for Sneffels - damn, I'm just going to have to do it again.)

Good to see the snow lines up there are still in. How did Dead Dog look? Kiefer and I are planning a race up (him doing Lost Rat and me doing DD) and whoever gets to the Greys/Torreys saddle first wins.

Brian, check out ”Night of the Grizzlies” if you haven't already. I watched the documentary on it but now want to read the book. The documentary was very interesting, and scary.

Hell of a report.

Great read. Would have loved to see a helmet cam of the head first glissade sans axe. Can't wait to get back to the hills for another slime/ammonia/cow crap sandwich. Make it a triple! Thanks.

Suburban

Your Suburban story reminds me of one of my trips last year. I had just got finished with a solo day on Clinton/McNamee/Traver and was down near Wheeler Lake getting ready to hike/run the 4wd road back down to my vehicle at Montgomery Reservoir. 3 Jeeps passed me on the way down (flew by me actually), 2 of them with empty passenger seats. They blew right by me and never offered me a ride. As I got down near the reservoir, I saw the 3 Jeeps stopped. One of them had flipped on it's side and wedged itself nicely in between some boulders. KARMA ! Probably a good thing I wasn't in the jeep afterall, as the passenger side was crushed.

Damn right Benners

Slogfests are more fun than I thought. ”Willow Floating” takes touring to a whole new level, just hope no Grizz are lurking down below, but atleast I'll have higher ground, a can of mace and a 4.5 inch blade.

Conversation en route to G/T saddle -
Me : ”Benners, do you see this s**tshow goin on? I just saw someone glissade head first with no axe”
Ben : ”I don't have time for this s**t Brian, just put one foot in front of the other”
Me : ”We should take some shots for scientific research”
Ben : (grunting.......)

re : family blue Tahoe w/ canoe on top who didn't give us a ride., despite 2 spots blatantly open. Whenever I pass you along some secluded desert dirt road, don't expect any aid, but rather a middle finger, a warm jug of week old urine to hydrate yourselves with and the pleassant view of a hairy ass being stuck out the passenger window as a car speeds by, leaving you nothing more than a cloud of dust.

I can personally attest to the truth of it, I spent 3 years of my life as an electrician in a packing house that used the BPI product. And FYI, that's also how they get to a 97% lean number on your ground beef at the store...you're better off buying 80/20.

Oh yeah, GREAT ski report too.

Whose Hairy Ass Would That Be!?!??!

At least you said cloud of ”dust” as opposed to some other noxious cloud of unmentionable material. 8) I gotta tell you two, between the text (very good, Ben) and photos and Brian's closing comments, this is an extremely entertaining trip report. Thanks for starting my day off with a smile and some laughs. Happy trails!

I just thought I would ask you, seeing as you were recently up there... My husband and I are hiking on Monday, grays and torreys combo. Would you suggest that we bring snowshoes? Thanks! -Candice

Thanks All!

Stephanie: Dead Dog was not looking great; lots of avy debris and thin sections. I'd imagine whoever takes Lost Rat will win the race .

Terri: Thanks for the kind words! Let's do Uptown again this summer!

Candice: I don't know that snowshoes would be worth the extra weight; along the standard routes the snow has been compacted quite a bit by hiker traffic, maybe something like YakTrax would serve you better...
