Notes: My third 14er is MT Sherman. Left Denver around midnight and started at the trailhead by 3am. Lost the (poorly marked) trail in the darkness and ended up cutting across a talus field to the wrong saddle. In the end, the route up was a mix of the standard route and the winter route. It turned out fortunate though, ending up on the South Slope of the mountain right at sunrise, with a great view East. If I‘d gone the standard route, might have made the summit in time, but also might have been stuck on the Southwest Ridge without as nice a view of the sun rising over the mountains. After watching the sunrise, gained the summit, took a break, and then began the hike back down via standard route (Southwest Ridge). With the sun now illuminating the mountainside, a bunch of old mining equipment and decrepit buildings came into view. Some really neat scenery up there, from both man and nature.
