Status Update
Since it has been some time since anyone updated this, I just wanted to share some info. The Baldwin Gulch "277" road above 9,400ft is still snowy and not passable. There is a great small parking area just feet from the 2WD TH itself. I can remember 3 ice floes that would stop most vehicles on the hike up beyond the 2WD TH. I could see some tire tracks of someone who tried to go up the 4WD road, but they stopped at a certain point (before the ice floes).

So it€„¢s open to the 2WD trailhead at the junction of Baldwin Gulch and Chalk Creek?

Exactly

Yes, dry dirt to the intersection of Chalk Creek and Baldwin Gulch lower TH. "Easy 2WD dirt to 9,400' at start of the Baldwin Gulch road" is what I am referring to. The road up to the 4WD TH/12,100ft is not drivable.

Skinning the road

Is the road up to treeline for Antero snow covered? Just wondering if we can skin up the road and then hike the peak. Thanks.

To skin or not to skin

It's a little patchy. For example: Ice, then snow, cross a little stream, then an ice crust with rocks underneath, then deep snow with big post holes in it. We were post holing a lot, even in snowshoes. There were just a lot of large holes in the snow, not sure how that affects skinning, but I could see it being a bother. Once you get past the creek crossing though, I could see skinning being a good option for a little while! That would be beyond Photo #3 in the route description. The fresh snow that is up there, between 12-13k is a little sketchy in the snow gullies. The snow on the 4WD road I found to be unsafe as it wasn't consolidated, slipped out from under me, and sloped a lot toward an extreme angle going downhill, if that makes any sense. It's hard to explain, but I wasn't expecting that 45 degree angle of snow filling in along the road.

Maybe not to skin

Thanks. May be easier just to hike.
