The road should be passable to all 2WD vehicles, even with low clearance. Expect a good 90 minute+ ride from the 50/114 intersection. The only minor problem might be as you make the sharp right turn into the trailhead parking lot. It's a steep drop on uneven terrain. If you feel your car can't make the turn, there is a parking/camping spot about 1/4 mile before the trailhead lot on the right hand side. For those that can make the actual trailhead, there is a nice, flat camping spot under the trees. Spent the night on 7/14 for a 7/15 hike up San Luis. Very peaceful !
