USFS 252 is blocked about 1/2 - 3/4 mile beyond the 250/252 junction by a deep snow drift on the side of a ravine (the usual spot - see 3rd picture below). After that, the road is dry for about a mile before becoming snow covered above ~9,500ft. Parking lot is covered in deep snow (see below). Snow shoes or skis very helpful above 9,500ft. Recommend parking at the 250/252 junction - it is a 3.25 mile hike from that point to the TH.

Thanks for the post.

Did you see any sign of running water around the trailhead?

Nelson - there is some water nearby, but I can't recall where. We hiked to about 12,000ft and there were 2 running streams on the way up in the trees. There is a stream where that snow drift blocks the road as well - not sure I would drink that straight with all the cow pies in the area.

Mountainman420 - Did not see any wild turkeys. As far as signs - not sure if I would recognize their tracks even if I saw them. Saw a bobcat (my first sighting of one in the wild) near the Angel of Shavano TH yesterday though (separate trip from the above post).

BTW there is a nice trench from multiple parties up to the Angel. Not sure if the standard route is trenched or not.
