Details

Did the trifecta this morning: belford/Oxford then Missouri via elkshead pass. No significant snow on Bedford/Oxford. Missouri has a moderate snowfield just before the ridge, then 3 small snowfields on the ridge that are easily navigated. Just wore trail shoes. No microspikes/ax/crampons required.

Approximate times for trip:
Left TH at 5:20
Belford summit at 7:25
Oxford summit at 8:20
Missouri summit at 10:45
Back to trailhead at 1:05

Elkshead pass

What is the route like going from Belford/Oxford to Missouri via the Elkshead pass? Is it pretty straight forward along the ridge? Sounds like a good idea to hit all three in one day.

How much Mileage did you cover and I am interested in Elkshead Pass too?

Fun route; highly recommended

I believe it ended up being around 17 miles RT. Once you descend from elkshead there is a trail junction sign indicating the start of the route up Missouri. You will have to cross some snow coming down the pass but the junction sign and trail up Missouri is easy to spot. Be prepared to move quickly though. It took a pretty good effort/pace to nab all three before the usual T–storms rolled in.

A trip report by outbackdobbs last year was also pretty useful

Regarding your report on the trifecta (Missouri, Belford, Oxford), were you running at parts of the trail to achieve those times? Or were you just hiking at a solid pace with minimal stopping?

Approximate times for trip according to your report:
Left TH at 5:20
Belford summit at 7:25 (4 miles in 2 hrs)
Oxford summit at 8:20 (1.5 miles in less than 1 hr)
Missouri summit at 10:45 (?? 3–4 miles ?? in 2.5 hrs)
Back to trailhead at 1:05 (5.25 miles in less than 2.5 hrs)

total = roughly 13.75–14.75 miles in 7.75 hrs

less than 8 hrs for 15+ miles is pretty solid and I’m looking to give it a shot but i saw a comment you left that maybe it was closer to 17miles? If so do you mind correcting my above estimates wherever I might be off a little..?? Also, did you descend the normal route down Missouri along the northwest ridge? lastly, do you happen to have any pics from elkhead pass and what the climb/trail was like up Missouri on the East ridge?

Thanks!
