The trail is hard packed well till the point the summer/winter trial deviates. Snow shoes would have been helpful! I counted 8 people up there yesterday so there is a start of a trench in some places. After the 12,100 area spikes or crampons is all you need.

Hey MTGOAT72, it was good meeting you and DeerHouse? on Wednesday. Thank you and all the others present for encouraging me to try the footwarmers. I really appreciate the 14ers Mountain Community even more. I've done similar things in different circumstances in the past and this just reinforces the idea of helping each other out when in need! Being the 1st ones up the trail that day, we had some tuff sledding going up that slope after the signpost to reach the ridge. It was very similar to avy rescue technique, I was using my pole to find the hidden trail beneath the windblown snow. I'd do about 4 punches in front of me to find that hard packed trail before stepping up, it was slow, but the patience kept me from burning myself up in the deep snow!

You as well boudreaux

Once your toes warmed up you were off like a bolt of lightning. I'm glad you were able to keep going. I guess we will all pack toe warmers for a few more months!

Not much snow

It is amazing there is not much snow up there, it is very dry above treeline. If I started off like lightning, I sure did finish with a fizzle! Warmers are part of the necessities now!
