The Road:
It's not that bad. Early on there is a fairly deep, perpendicular ditch/swale that cannot be avoided and could be a problem for a vehicle with low clearance. After that, there are some rough, rocky patches that cannot be avoided (but aren't too bad) and numerous potholes that can be avoided. There are also several lengthy stretches where the road is in pretty good shape. Dust is minimal. Also, the aspens are turning and will probably be at their peak over the next week or two. It's a pretty drive, especially right now.
The Trail:
From the trailhead at 9,600' to the end of the CFI improvements at 12,900' it is a beautiful, Class 1 trail that is 99% dry. The next 600 vertical feet of scree is annoying and slippery, but dry. Although not easy, a use trail through this section is easy to follow. There is some snow on the relatively long summit ridge, but it is either avoidable or easily traversed.
