Sorry I have no pics. My camera is broken and my partner forgot his. Did the loop starting up the Bross trail and ending on Democrat. The road is now plowed to Kite Lake due to the recent S&R activity on Ajax. The sherriff and local search and rescue folks were up there sat morning and they were all very nice and very friendly. There was a couple of hundred yards of snow from the TH towards bross. Snowshoes definitely not needed. Almost dry route all of the way until the Cameron/Democrat saddle. Microspikes might be nice up Democrat as the trail there is pretty hard packed but we managed just fine with just boots. We camped on the Democrat summit Sat night and woke up to crazy winds sunday morning so we packed up quickly and got back to the car. Having the advantage of the road being open to kite lake, we made it down in time to have a delicious breakfast at the world's highest saloon in alma. Nice folks there!

Rough road?

Do you know how the condition of the road compares to say, the middle of last summer? Just wondering if a low clearance AWD could get up there without too much trouble. Contemplating a relatively easy climb with some less experienced folks this weekend if the forecast stays good. Thanks very much!

I wasn't up there last summer but if it doesn't snow any more, I would have no problem taking up my wife's 2000 honda crv or a mini-van right now. There was actually a mini-van up there this weekend. Only thing I would worry about is the mud near the bottom. First thing in the morning, it will be frozen but if you try in the evening when it is thawed, you could easily get stuck. For democrat, I would advise at a minimum micro spikes for the newbies. Good luck and Stay safe.

May look elsewhere or at something a bit lower, plus don't want the car to get stuck. Thanks for your help!
