The rainbow trail is a mess. Soft snow and fallen trees.

There is a good bit of new snow on the route. Snowshoes recommended. The trench that many of the december climbers carved out is completely gone. It took me 4.5 hours to gain treeline. This is partly because there is deep snow on the east ridge and I spent a lot of time route finding. I was able to locate where the trench was based on the consistency of snow underfoot. You cannot see it unless you are right on it and you mainly identify it just by standing on it. One foot left or right of it and you sink to your waist.

I left a good trail to treeline though the wind has probably erased most of it.

I did not end up summitting because I got to treeline and encountered 70mph winds. No thank you.

***If you climb this route and see an OR left hand glove on the ridge but closer to the rainbow trail, please let me know.

I attempted Humboldt via same route and got to treeline as well last Tuesday. We also had found the packed trail below 6-8 inches of snow. We were able to follow it to treeline where the winds hit 70+ and I turned around. I think it was funny how you had to just guess where the packed trail was and once you stepped off...down you went!
