I was in the area yesterday and heard a climber broke his femur. Alpine Rescue was working it. Anyone have more info? Thanks.

Alpine Rescue Team had a busy Sunday.

3 simultaneous missions kept members of Alpine busy Sunday!

The team started with a call for a hiker with altitude sickness high on Kelso ridge. The hiker was reportedly unable to move and couldn’t ascend or descend. Flight for life was contacted to help pinpoint the location of the hiker and shuttle rescue deployment members into the field. Due to deteriorating weather, flight for life determined it would be unsafe to shuttle members to the ridge. 2 ground teams were deployed and made contact with the sick party on the ridge, descending to the summer trail.

During the Kelso ridge call 2 additional calls came in for Saint Mary’s. Both for individuals who had fallen and sustained injuries. One individual was evacuated from the slabs west of the lake and the other was evacuated from Fox Mountain road.

It’s summer and our busy season. We’re incredibly thankful for strong partnerships with our Clear Creek County agencies, we couldn’t accomplish our mission without their help!

As we head into the summer months it’s important to remember that a helicopter is never plan A, not even for rescuers. There are many factors outside our control that can limit aerial support.
Regardless of how we get to you, we’re always happy to assist those having a bad day in the mountains.
