Remembering Blues311

Hi folks, I’ve been away from the site and from exploring the mountains for a long time. I’m back today to share some sad news. My friend Mike (Blues311) lost his long battle with cancer last month.
I met Mike through another friend over 20 years ago. We immediately bonded over nerdy things, 311, and the outdoors. We had lots of adventures together. Many of those involved 14ers but also skiing, hiking, traveling for concerts, and hockey. Mike and his wife were a huge part of getting me to move to Colorado. That move has turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
Mike was the consummate renaissance man. Exceptional engineer, expert skier, skilled outdoorsman, Eagle Scout, accomplished mountaineer, devoted husband and father, world traveler, one of the smartest people I’ve ever met, and just a damn fine human being. Mike summited all Colorado 14ers as well as Mt Shasta, Mt Whitney, Kilimanjaro, and Mt Hood. He and another friend made a run at Denali a few years ago. Mike loved the outdoors and especially the mountains. He inspired this Kansas native to spend way more time up high than I would have otherwise.
While Mike didn’t post a ton here this site was one of his go-to resources. His connection to this community goes far beyond his posts here. If you knew Mike and would like to do something to honor his memory he and his family have asked that people donate to https://www.14ers.org/.
