Hello fellow hikers!
I live in New York and planning on a 7 day trip to Colorado to hike Mt. Elbert.
I'm interested in camping halfway up and halfway down the mountain; so a 3-day round-trip hike.
We can discuss specific gear, contingency plans, and anything else.

My son and I were planning on doing Elbert again this winter if his knee has healed enough (knee surgery in June). We probably won't know for a month or two though.
Even at a slow(ish) to moderate pace though, one night should be enough. I've done it as an overnighter and day trip. We camped at 11,200 the first time; there aren't that many places to camp much above there. The trip up to timberline can be slow, but it's much faster coming down so a second night doesn't have much advantage. Going downhill it's probably only two hours or so from the highest campsites to the trailhead.

Hello, just spotted your post. I am planning on heading to mt elbert to see if a winter ascent is viable on weekend 14/15 Feb 25. The very specific dates are bc I've got a free weekend whilst in the US with work (over from the UK).
I was originally looking to understand if mountain guides are routinely available to take individuals up the E ridge, conditions permitting, and what would be a reasonable price to pay, but also keen to meet with others who have the same aims.
I am completely comfortable with high grade winter conditions with all of my experience being in Scotland. I wouldnt need kit hire, less maybe snow shoes (size in the hold luggage!). I'm keen for a guide mainly just to understand snow pack in a region where I've not routed before, and to buy out some risk and enjoy it a bit more.
For disclosure, if conditions aren't favourable, I'll still visit and look to go low instead, no sense in walking headlong into white for 10hours.
Tia!
