Pennsylvania Mntn TH
Anyone know what's up with this trailhead? The road closed at the intersection of Mountain view and Rialto, about .25 mi from the TH. It's blocked off with boulders and scattered debris, with trespassing signs everywhere. I'm aware of all the access issues over there (CR 696, Sacramento Creek, Decalibro) but wasn't able to find anything recent on this.

I haven't been this year, but there are two of them that aren't that far from each other.
Are you talking about the North or South trailhead?

This was the earlier report but no information given on the reason for the closure.

Thanks - I needed to toggle "13ers" to see that. It did not look like parking was welcome at all. And I'm still curious why they closed it so close to the former end of the road. And in such a fashion - did not look "official" at all.
Anyway, I assume Pika is still open. I think that's what Scott meant by "North."

I’ll check it out the next time I’m in that area. Thanks
Re: Pennsylvania Mntn TH
When I was there it appeared they just moved the trailhead down the road slightly because there was still a parking area clearly built at the end of the road. I didn't see any trespassing signs so those must be more recent than when I was there.

Re: Pennsylvania Mntn TH
I hiked it last month. Like you said, large boulders 0.2 miles from the old trailhead. A small lot on the left that fits half a dozen vehicles. There's also a house going up on the right side of the road, past the boulders. I did not see any private property signs at all, so those must be new. The Pika Trail meets it in two places once you're past the "old" trailhead, so you can come up from that (Pika) trailhead if you want, but it adds distance and elevation. I went straight up past those two junctions and cut left through the willows on the way up, but came down the proper trail, which doesn't intersect the Pika Trail. So...Are they closing that trailhead? I don't know.

Re: Pennsylvania Mntn TH
Thanks for sharing that - interesting it just mentions the "Pika Trail." From a conservation perspective, it doesn't make a whole lot sense to have two trailheads so close together that just link up not far away.

Re: Pennsylvania Mntn TH
Just heard from Christine at Mountain Area Land Trust. USFS will continue to maintain the TH at the new closure. Apparently it was County Road and Bridge that decided to stop maintaining the last 1/4 mile of 14a. They plan to put in a new lot and kiosk.
It was probably the new construction at tie closure that made it appear so forbidding to me.
