Original post was:
Here is my list of Mexico’s peaks above 13,000 ft. Any peaks that should be removed (see discussion below)? Or any that should be added?

1 Pico de Orizaba (Citlaltepetl), 5610m / 18,406ft; Puebla/Veracruz
2 Popocatepetl, 5426m / 17,802ft; Mexico/Morelos/Puebla
3 Iztaccihuatl, 5220m / 17,126ft; Mexico/Puebla
4 Nevado de Toluca (Pico de Fraille, Volcan de Xinantecatl), 4680m / 15,354ft; Mexico
5 Sierra Negra (Atlitzin; Tliltepetl), 4580m / 15,026ft; Puebla (next to Orizaba)
6 Pico Humboldt (Arista de Humboldt), 4481m /14,703ft; Mexico (part of Nevado de Toluca)
7 La Malinche (Matlalcueye), 4420m / 14,501ft; Puebla/Tlaxcala
8 Nevado de Colima (Tzapotepetl), 4270m / 13,780ft; Jalisco
9 Cofre de Perote (Nauhcampatepetl = four sided mtn), 4200m / 13,780; Veracruz
10 Mount Tlaloc (Tlalocatepetl), 4120m / 13,517ft; Mexico
11 Mount Telapon, 4081m / 13,389ft; Mexico (near Tlaloc)
12 Volcan Tacana, 4080m / 13,386ft; Chiapas/Guatemala (Sierra de Istatan)

The best published list that I found was from Wikipedia. On mine, I added Telapon and Humboldt. Any reason why Telapon should not be included? For Humboldt, the argument would be that it is just part of Nevado de Toluca. However, in contrast to Pico de Aguila (a higher subpeak), Pico Humboldt is more separated from the main ridge and has well over 300 ft in prominence.

There are several other lists that I found (world atlas, peak visor, geonames) that leave out Sierra Negra and/or Mount Tlaloc. Sierra Negra is certainly overshadowed by Pico de Orizaba, but still has a prominence of over 1,700 ft. For Mount Tlaloc, I don’t know of any reason to leave it out.

These other lists instead include some additional peaks, but for two of them, this seems to be due to typos on maps, including on gaia maps. Those are Cerro Tiopa (near Tlaloc) and Piedra La Campana (in the town of Toluca) but they seem to be 1 or 3K ft shorter than indicated on some maps. Several other ones don’t seem to have sufficient prominence to be considered separate peaks. Those are Cerro Altzomoni (between Itza and Popo) and several subpeaks of Nevado de Toluca.

Cerro Colorado - 4460-4480m/14633ft Puebla. 394ft prominence. https://peakbagger.com/peak.aspx?pid=28960

Pico Refugio FGG Sur, 15682ft, says only 196ft of prominence. It sure looks like more than that though.
https://www.peakbagger.com/peak.aspx?pid=105903
Izta - Los Pies (the feet) has 492ft of prominence. 4690+ m/15387+ feet. https://www.peakbagger.com/peak.aspx?pid=18993
Izta - Cabeza (the head) 426ft of prominence 5090+m/16699 feet. https://www.peakbagger.com/peak.aspx?pid=18992
Cerro Venacho - also in the Izta area. 328ft of prominence 3980+meters/13058feet.

Tlaloc should be on any list, for sure, over 3k of prominence.
Sierra Negra as well. The frustrating thing about Sierra Negra is that you can't access the summit area thanks to the Observatory. I wrote to ask permission, but the request was ignored.

Some of these elevations are off and don't match the latest maps, but your list has all the ones I can think of.

Anyway, it is strange that that list has Cofre de Perote as 4200 meters, but when you click on the link, it is 4282 meters (14,049)', which should be correct.

I don't know if I'd count Humboldt without counting say the various peaks of Izta.

I'd say Telapon should definitely be counted.

It almost surely is more than that. The default method Peakbagger uses to calculate prominence is very flawed.

[subpeaks: Pico Humboldt (Arista de Humboldt), 4481m /14,703ft; Pico de Aguila is higher and worthwhile,
but certainly not ranked; neither the central cone]

4270 meters is 14,009 feet. You have the correct altitude in meters, just not the feet.

The rest of the list looks good.

Pico Refugio FGG Sur - is a subpeak on Orizaba not Izta.

Thanks for taking the time to put together a Mexico 13er list. It seems like a very doable list with a few trips out there (if they ever open Popo, which one guide that we talked to, thinks they absolutely should). Maybe Seano will go for the FKT for the whole set?

Nice. Are you planning on climbing them all?

I have climbed several of those (including Popo), but still have some left.

Super envious about Popo! Seems like i missed the boat on that one. Other than Popo, yeah, i think i might like to climb them all. No particular rush though. Climbed 5 so far (Orizaba, Izta, Nevado de Toluca, Malinche, and Tlaloc), and Malinche was my first peak over 4000m ever. So if i ever finish this list, it will take me even more time than the CO 14ers.

Thinking of tagging some of the peaks on this list? Dig a little deeper into this story:

https://www.denverpost.com/2012/06/02/j ... ies-at-58/

I don't want to knock travel in Mexico, except to say that you might get killed, have the government in mexico refuse to return your body, then cremate it without consent of your family to hide the hideous manner in which you met your demise.
