Re: Mount Lindsey Closure
Would someone mind confirming or not that accessing Huerfano Peak and California Peak via the Lily Lake TH does not run afoul of private property/trespassing issues. Many thanks for the guidance. I'm planning a trip for this coming Friday - Sunday to snag these Centennials which would put me having only 10 left to finish them up.

just commenting to let you know you don't want to do California from the Lily Lake TH. if you go from the Zapata TH (closer) you will actually enjoy that peak.uwe wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 10:56 am Would someone mind confirming or not that accessing Huerfano Peak and California Peak via the Lily Lake TH does not run afoul of private property/trespassing issues. Re: Mount Lindsey Closure
California is definitely good from Lily Lake. Huerfano is probably fine, and can be done more or less completely legally if you come up the NW ridge from UN13555. If you get up from the Huerfanito/Huerfano saddle, you'd likely technically trespass, as the ridgeline is the property boundary. To stay fully on public land on that route would be impractical, as most of the time people drop onto the south side of that ridge to get to the top. I doubt there would be consequences for that approach and soft trespass, though, as you'd be walking the border and not veering more than a few yards into the ranchuwe wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 10:56 am Would someone mind confirming or not that accessing Huerfano Peak and California Peak via the Lily Lake TH does not run afoul of private property/trespassing issues. Re: Mount Lindsey Closure
No property issues on California/Huerfano. By the way, I would definitely recommend climbing the north ridge of California and then descend to Lily Lake - that is if you'd like to enjoy your day. Descending PT13577 to Lily Lake involves a crappy loose scree slide and I'd hate to go up that route for sure. But at least it's tolerable on the descent and then you can make a loop of it by heading over to Huerfano then down to the river, back to the Lily Lake TH and down the road to where you started (Zapata trailhead). If you're doing them individually, then I'd go up/down the north ridge of California.uwe wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 10:56 am Would someone mind confirming or not that accessing Huerfano Peak and California Peak via the Lily Lake TH does not run afoul of private property/trespassing issues. Re: Mount Lindsey Closure
To provide an alternative perspective, I climbed California in combination with Peak 13,577 from Lily Lake, and I found the route enjoyable.
We made a loop out of the day by continuing north from California and descending the Raspberry Trail back to where we parked. Peak 12,198 is an easy add-on!
A longer day could include the newly identified true summit of bicentennial Peak 13,656.

Re: Mount Lindsey Closure
Thanks everyone, I will pass all of this on to my dad! Has anyone actually been up Lindsey this summer and is the “no trespassing” sign actually indeed still on the mountain at 13,000 ft?
Or is there any chance it’s been taken down?

The sign is no longer there. Still trespassing, though. Know the risks you’re taking and make your decision appropriately.

Re: Mount Lindsey Closure
Seriously, please DON'T climb Lindsey until agreement has been reached with the owners to allow LEGAL access. Willfully trespassing now could negatively impact negotiations and affect thousands of future climbers. You KNOW it's illegal, just obey the law and have a little patience.

Just do it as an fkt and you'll be fine.mattlovesashley12 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2024 7:19 am My dad wants to know… what happens if you ignore the trail closed or trespassing signs on Lindsey and just climb to the top? He is 60 and only has 10 left to do in the entire state and he wants to do Lindsey while he’s there and able. He doesn’t care if he has to pay a fine or get a ticket... but he was curious if anyone knew what might happen if he goes ahead and just hikes to the top?? He’d have other hikers with him.
Thanks!

Re: Mount Lindsey Closure
A friend of mine hiked Lindsey this weekend up to the line of closure. The sign from her photo was basically a notice that read "you are leaving public lands and entering private lands." The photo of the whole sign was cut off (it was a selfie), so I couldn't read the entire thing. Though I didn't actually see "no trespassing" written on the sign, a notice *is* there, and we know it's trespassing right now.mattlovesashley12 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 8:56 pm Thanks everyone, I will pass all of this on to my dad! Re: Mount Lindsey Closure
If it was the same sign that started this entire thread, the very bottom (which was maybe cut off) reads "PUBLIC ACCESS IS NOT ALLOWED".

I just went to the very beginning of this post, and that is in fact the sign that my friend hiked to this weekend!mindfolded wrote: ↑Wed Jul 24, 2024 9:21 am If it was the same sign that started this entire thread, the very bottom (which was maybe cut off) reads "PUBLIC ACCESS IS NOT ALLOWED".
