Does anyone know the exact date when Senate Bill 58 goes into effect in August?
EDIT: August 7, 2024 is the date --> https://leg.colorado.gov/bills/sb24-058

Re: Mount Lindsey Closure
My dad wants to know… what happens if you ignore the trail closed or trespassing signs on Lindsey and just climb to the top? He is 60 and only has 10 left to do in the entire state and he wants to do Lindsey while he’s there and able. He doesn’t care if he has to pay a fine or get a ticket... but he was curious if anyone knew what might happen if he goes ahead and just hikes to the top?? He’d have other hikers with him.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Seriously? Completely disregarding the law and posted "no trespassing" signs? For a checklist? Don't be like dad.mattlovesashley12 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2024 7:19 am My dad wants to know… what happens if you ignore the trail closed or trespassing signs on Lindsey and just climb to the top? Re: Mount Lindsey Closure
Legal access via waiver is rumored to be imminent and if he has 10 left surely he can do others now and wait til this fall or next summer to do it legally.

You'd end up with a slightly incremented number on a website, other than that, nothing.mattlovesashley12 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2024 7:19 am My dad wants to know… what happens if you ignore the trail closed or trespassing signs on Lindsey and just climb to the top? Re: Mount Lindsey Closure
Nothing is going to happen. There’s no trespassing signs or anything that indicates that the mountain should not be climbed. Maybe the owner decided to open it without announcing anything. Go get it!mattlovesashley12 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2024 7:19 am My dad wants to know… what happens if you ignore the trail closed or trespassing signs on Lindsey and just climb to the top? Also, didn’t the owner get tax breaks for “preserving a recreational area”? Wish someone would sue him to get our money back.

Unless the sign on the very first post of this thread fell down or was vandalized in some way, this is not true.ICantHearYou wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2024 9:52 am There’s no trespassing signs or anything that indicates that the mountain should not be climbed.

It's still closed as far as we know. And, yes, there is a sign unless it was recently remove.
So, hiking the route now would be trespassing. It's that simple. I would hope dad is NOT ok with 1) breaking the law and 2) risking that his actions might negatively impact law-abiding hikers who are waiting for legal access.
Re: Mount Lindsey Closure
What happens if you got seriously hurt while trespassing (let's assume it is related to climbers' responsibility like a fall, not owners' negligence)? Would SAR rescue you if you were trespassing on private property? Would they need to get the owner's permission before they could rescue you (which could take hours or days)? Would your health insurance ask where/how you got injured, and then you would either have to lie and commit insurance fraud or admit to trespassing (which could mean jail time and/or fines) or refuse insurance money (which could set you back tens of thousands of dollars). All of these are very bad options. And the Lindsey route is no joke. There is significant potential for getting into trouble on that route.

Just off the top of my head, but search and rescue activities occur under the direction of the sheriff's office, and governments have all sorts of powers to do whatever they want.greenonion wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 8:36 amExcellent question.
