San Juan camping

I have been away from CO for a few years and got a short notice opportunity return for a few weeks and plan to hit at least 1 peak or a combo. What I want to do is hike in a few miles in the afternoon then hike a peak (or 2) the next day. I am looking for areas in the San Juans (other than San Jaun Peak). I am experienced in the mountains and backcountry camping so there isn’t much of a limitation for that. I am looking for a 14er but open to a 13er , I want to stick to main trails and class 3 or lower and have a camp site with a water source if able. My vehicle will be a rental most likely a medium clearance SUV. Does anyone have any suggestions, thanks in advance.

Kilpacker basin. Look for a camping spot as soon as you cross the creek, don't get sucked into going any further on the first day.

One of the prettiest and underrated areas of the San Juans is the Little Cimarron. The ridge between Sheep Mountain (13er elevation 13,170) and 13,102 is one of the most scenic in the San Juans.

I second Scott P. I just spent a couple days up there or Father's Day weekend. Amazing dispersed spots up towards the East Fork Trailhead as well as Middle Fork.
