If you can find a Mammut Trion Advanced 32+7, I think you'd like it since you mentioned you'd like something for technical climbing; its lightweight, simply made and is pretty low profile- carries tight to your back when cinched down properly.
I'm glad I picked one up a while ago as at least in these parts I can't find them anymore.

Need some opinions:

I have about six packs between the sizes of 18-42L, but I'm looking for something in the 55-60L range because my next largest pack is 70L. I used the 42L for a trip to Rainier last year because I figured the 70L would be too big on summit day, but the 42L was a little small.

I've been looking at the Columbia Trail Elite 55L pack as an option, but I haven't found more than a couple reviews on it. Columbia makes good products, but they aren't particularly known for packs. Does anyone have experience with this pack or any Columbia packs? Thanks!

Two favorite backpacks:
- Osprey 22L
- Gossamer Gear Minimalist 24

The latter has become my go-to travel bag, as I can stuff it in my carry-on duffel or use it as a stand-alone bag. It's lightweight with minimal additional features, which I enjoy while doing day hikes.

This is a really important point that a lot of people don't think of! This has become second nature to me after growing up in Teller County where there were rednecks shooting guns in every trail space nearby - if you don't want to be mistaken for an animal, wear really bright colors. You never know when there will some trigger happy hunter nearby. Plus, as Tom mentioned, bright colors and reflective gear will save your butt if you ever are the subject of a search or if you get separated from your group. The odds of being found quickly go way up if you're wearing high visibility gear.

I find Gregory to be an exceptional brand, both my day- and multiday- packs are Gregories. To me, 40L is an awkward size bc it is too much for a daytrip and not enough for a multiday trip. Do you know that REI's anniversary sale starts tomorrow?

Kinda parachuting into this thread without a thorough read through all responses, but I've been ultra happy with my Mystery Ranch Scree 32. Probably my favorite pack that I've ever owned. I use it for traveling and day hikes where I need more capacity than a 15-20L size.
