Very sorry to see this. I have skied that slope more times than I can count. The most upsetting thing is how preventable it was. There have been multiple stories flowing my direction this week of slides much larger than is typical. Patience.

I was afraid of this. After leaving A-Basin today there was a sheriff talking with a group of people at the bottom of the pass. As we continued on we saw another cop, followed by a firetruck and ambulance. We saw about 3 or 4 more vehicles heading that direction and my stomach dropped when one had a couple of snowmobiles on a trailer. Tragic. R.I.P.

Yeah my fiance and I left A-Basin around 3:10pm or so and drove all the way to the top of the pass where a CDOT employee was having traffic turn around to go back down and through the Eisenhower Tunnel instead. He said there was an avalanche. How horrible.

I wonder where on Sniktau the slide occurred. I've always thought of it as one of the safest winter 13ers in Colorado.

Preliminary CAIC report said North aspect near treeline.
