It amazes me how someone I never met personally has left such a lasting impression on my thoughts when it comes to my ventures into the Colorado mountains. I joined this community just a couple of months after the tragedy but I have read through many of David's thread posts and have enjoyed his trip reports immensely (I still do!). I think it is safe to say that this particular community will never forget TalusMonkey! I wish I would have had the opportunity to meet him, his sense of humor and personality seems like ones that I would have been able to dig! Anytime I see a big, furry pimp hat and big gold chains the first image that pops in my head is him standing on a mountain with his leg propped up Captain-style!

My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.

Th' Duffus Kentucky Climber had special regard for Talus Monkey. There is a lump in his throat. He'll join gsliva, aubrey, gurly, and you all in washing it down with a brew.

I've got a glass of Glenlivet 18 year old raised in honor of David; I know Colt 45 would be his toast but I'm a Scotch guy and only the best for David. What a man. Best to David's family and Caroline too.

I never met him, but have read about him and seen pictures. And i just saw a car I think he may have loved from the way he is dressed ontop of Elbert. It was a purple pimpmobile, it was an 80's something or other, i dont know, and it had the big rims, and it was actually painted purple, oh and not to forget the tinted windows, who else thinks he wouldve liked the car??

OK this is really weird.
I have been a periodic lurker here for a couple years.
My brother (Alpine) told me about TalusMonkey when he passed away. I was kind of enthralled by him when I started reading some of his posts and what some of the people had written about him.
Just recently, a similar "larger than life" person on the MTBR.com forum, passed away.
I had only met Anthony Sloan a couple times briefly, but he was seemingly the same type of captivating personality as David. People on MTBR near and far, that had not even met the man were touched deeply by him, his photographs and accompanying stories and words.
Do a search on the mtbr.com (co-front range forum or passion forum) for "anthonys" member name and you will quickly see what I am talking about.
Anyway, it turns out that he passed on May 7 as well. Sorry, but I thought it interesting, and you may like to know.
I thought about Talusmonkey a couple times on our Little Bear summit this past weekend, and he was brought up in discussion once.

Everytime I set out on a 14er, I think of David, his presence is there because I know he was there.

I still think about this guy. Never met him but when I first got into hiking 14ers this guy was a legend on this site.

Now that's a name I haven't heard In a loooong time....

I miss a lot of the OGs.
